Biography

‘If you are looking for a drummer, look no further! Simon Small will make your band sound better. He is able to read the band onstage and picks things up very quickly. Most importantly Si is a lovely guy and is very easy to work with. We cannot recommend him highly enough, he is a fantastic drummer!’

Jamie Goddard & Harriet Lowther – Band leaders of The Zoots

I have been touring the UK and Europe as a freelance session drummer for the past ten years, performing with various artists at some of Europe’s most prestigious festivals and venues including Brixton Academy, The NIA Birmingham, Glastonbury Festival, Shepherds Bush Empire and The Paradiso, Amsterdam.

I have toured in support of internationally acclaimed bands and artists, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Fogerty and Wishbone Ash as well as sharing festival bills with the likes of Feeder, BB King and Jimmy Vaughan.

In 2012 and 2013 I was nominated in the Drummer of the Year category at the British Blues Awards following work with Jon Amor Blues Group and Aynsley Lister.

My recording career has included sessions at Real World Studios and BBC’s Maida Vale, working with renowned producers such as Chris Hughes, Dom Monkes, Jesse Davey and Steve Evans. I performed on two albums by the multi award nominated Jon Amor Blues Group as well as the 2010 release ‘Tower Sessions’ by Aynsley Lister. I also appear alongside Robert Plant on Jon Amor’s 2007 album ‘Unknown Soldier’.

Whether playing at an international music festival or an intimate wedding reception, my drumming philosophy has always been to compliment the musicians around me, playing with feeling and dynamics. I have strived to develop a drumming style that is musical and creative, incorporating different styles and influences.  Comfortable playing in any genre I am also a keen percussionist and backing vocalist. With a passion for drums, music and performing I have always felt at home onstage and I love nothing more than entertaining audiences.
